Day 1-3 Stone town

Stone Town

Start your island days in Stone town with diving into the swahli history. Stone town is a World Heritage Site and you can certainly feel the wings of history when strolling the winding alleys of the old town. Take a day just to enjoy the city. Visit the markets and the historical buildings. Take a break at Zanzibar Coffee House for a cup of excellent Tanzanian coffee while taking in the scents, sounds and true feeling of Stone town. Enjoy a stunning African sunset at The Africa House, the old English Club. End your day at the food market Forodhani to fully experience the taste of Zanzibar.

Spend the next day at sea with the outstanding Safari Blue trip. A boat trip in a traditional dhow that lets you discover the Menai Bay with its mangroves and sandbank islands. Or if you aren’t a boat person why not go on a spice tour!

Day 4-6 Southern Zanzibar

Southern Zanzibar

Continue your Zanzibar trip south and check in at one of Zanzibar’s southeast beaches. The south coast of Zanzibar is less touristic and is the perfect place for you who wants to experience the Zanzibar culture.
Why not participate in a cooking class for instance? Or take a bike tour along the beach, visit the mangroves or of course, just chill on the beach.

The south coast is also a bit windier which make it the perfect place for kite surfing. It is also here you can find the famous The Rock restaurant with its spectacular location.

Day 7-9 North Zanzibar

It’s time to wave goodbye to south Zanzibar and make your way north. On your way you have the perfect opportunity to stop at Tanzania’s smallest national park, Jozani Forest. Take a hike to visit the endemic red colabus monkey before continuing your journey.

North Zanzibar

Choose between staying in the little bit more touristic Nungwi or one of the northeast beaches like Matemwe or Pongwe. Both considered to be among the best beaches on the island.

Matemwe or Pongwe are the perfect places to unwind. Just enjoy some lazy time on the beach or in the hammock while you look upon the everyday life passing by on the beach. The fishermen trading fish. The women harvesting seaweed. The children playing or the donkeys walking along the shoreline.

This is the best place for enjoying a diving/snorkeling excursion to nearby amazing Mnemba atoll just outside Matemwe. A conservation area consisting of a 4 by 7 km reef perfect for diving or snorkeling. Mnemba is famous for its crystal-clear water, abundance of fish and colorful wall dives. It is also a nesting spot for the green turtle.

For the true local experience visit Tumbatu. This is the third largest island in the Zanzibar archipelago but with no tourist. Anyone, even the Zanzibarians, who want to visit the island need a permission from the Chief. Among the people on the island voodoo has a strong hold and the Mganga, the witch doctor, is frequently visited.
